When you’re young, a little bit of course correction goes a long way. And I think it takes pretty talented people to do that and I don’t think enough of those get attracted into going in public eduction. You cannot even support a family with what you get paid.

My best contribution to the group is not settling for anything but really good stuff. A lot of times, people don’t do great things because great things really aren’t expected of them, and nobody ever really demands that they try, and nobody says, ‘Hey, that’s the culture here’. If you set that up, people will do things that are greater than they ever thought they could be. Really some great work that will go down in history.

At Apple, people are putting in 18-hour days. We attract a different type of person, a person who doesn’t want to wait five or ten years to have someone take a giant risk on him or her. Someone who really wants to get in a little over his head and make a little dent in the universe.
